Kilikkoodu | Urban Afforestation

Afforestation usually refers to the practice of planting saplings in areas which have been made devoid of forest cover in the hope of bringing back the natural foliage that existed there originally. The benefits associated with urban afforestation include better seepage of rainwater thereby maintaining ground water table, prevention of soil erosion and encouragement of growth of the natural habitat for flora and fauna. The adverse effects of deforestation are more in urban than rural regions. The concrete jungles had led to an increase in temperature, pollution and lowered rainfall within the city limits. In this project, we will identify potential land owners who are willing to submit their land for afforestration for a minimum period of 5 years. The project will look for revenue models in which commercial harvesting for bamboo stocks, fruit plants, pruning for pulp etc will be promoted.
